Driving between Islamabad and Abbottabad or Mansehra? How to fill your empty seats on the Hazara Motorway
Islamabad to Abbottabad and Mansehra is the route people search for most on Sawarri. Staff and students heading to Ayub Medical Complex, people who work in the capital and go home to Hazara at the weekend, families visiting — a great many of them make the trip by car with seats to spare, and many more are looking for one of those seats.
Right now the board does not have them. A search for rides to Abbottabad on 1 November 2026 returned none at all. That gap is the opportunity: the first drivers who post this route regularly are the ones every passenger will see.
Most of the Islamabad–Hazara run is the Hazara Motorway, joined at Burhan near Hassan Abdal.
The road in short
Islamabad to Abbottabad: about 120 km, two to two and a half hours. You head west on the M-1 to the Burhan interchange near Hassan Abdal, then north on the Hazara Motorway (E-35).
Islamabad to Mansehra: about 145 km — roughly 25 km past Abbottabad on the same road — so allow two and a half to three hours.
From Rawalpindi: about 110–120 km to Abbottabad, by the GT road to Hassan Abdal and then the motorway.
Ayub Medical Complex staff and students, who travel on duty and class hours — early mornings out of Abbottabad and Friday afternoons towards the capital.
Weekly commuters who work in Islamabad and live in Hazara. Sunday evening and Monday morning, back towards the capital, are the heaviest.
Students and families going home or visiting at the weekend, often for only part of the route — Haripur, Havelian or Abbottabad on the way to Mansehra.
Where to pick up and drop
Passengers on this corridor look for the stops everyone already uses, so list the ones you genuinely pass:
Islamabad and Rawalpindi: G-9 Markaz, Peshawar Mor, Blue Area, F-8 Markaz, G-8 Markaz, Faizabad and Golra Mor.
On the way: the Wah Cantt and Taxila stops, and Hassan Abdal at the Burhan junction.
Abbottabad: Fawara Chowk, Bilal Town, Supply, Mandian, Ayub Medical Complex, Nawanshahr and PMA Kakul Road.
Mansehra: Punjab Chowk, Shinkiari Road and the Mansehra bypass.
Add up the fuel and motorway tolls for the trip and divide by everyone in the car, including yourself. That keeps the seat fair and still makes your own trip far cheaper. Say clearly whether the price is per seat, and whether a shorter drop costs less. How to split fuel costs fairly in a carpool has a worked example.
Why post it on Sawarri
You set the fare and keep all of it — Sawarri takes no commission.
Your first ride is free and goes live straight away, with a “Not verified yet” tag until your documents are checked.
Rides two to five are also free once you are verified (CNIC, licence and car). After that each ride costs 20 credits, and new driver accounts start with 20.
Women-only is an option. Tick it, and only women can book.
Passengers post what they need, too. The ride requests board shows people looking for a seat on your route.
Enter where you start (G-9 Markaz, say), your destination, and the pickup points you can stop at.
Add the date and time — or tick “daily commute” if you make the trip every working day — choose seats and price, and publish.
Before the day, agree the pickup time, fare and luggage with each passenger, meet somewhere public, and share your route with someone at home. The safety guide covers the rest.
