Carpooling from Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi and Kohat: how the valley actually travels
If you live in the Peshawar valley and are looking for a shared ride, the first thing to know is that almost all of them go the same way: east, to Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Rides inside Peshawar, or between Mardan and Charsadda, barely appear on carpool boards. The long trip to the twin cities is the one people share.
Most shared rides out of the valley head east along the motorway.
This guide is written from what is actually on the Sawarri board, and the numbers are small. Right now there are 5 live rides with a Peshawar end, and none yet from Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi or Kohat. That is the honest picture, and it changes how you should search.
What is running from Peshawar right now
Three of the five live rides leave Peshawar for Islamabad, and each starts from a different, well-known point:
Haji Camp to G-11
Peshawar Saddar to I-10, H-11 and H-8
Hayatabad Phase 7 to G-12, G-13, H-13 and NUST
The other two come the other way, into Peshawar: one from Taxila to Hayatabad, and one from Rawalpindi Saddar to Peshawar University. We have covered the Peshawar end of this route — what Haji Camp, Hayatabad and the University Road side mean, and how the M-1 runs — in Islamabad to Peshawar: the M-1, the drop-offs, and how to find a seat.
Where valley rides land: the G and H sectors
Look at the Islamabad end of every ride above and a pattern shows. They finish in the G-11 to G-13 and H-8 to H-13 sectors, on the western side of Islamabad. That is the side you reach first coming off the motorway from the west, so drivers can drop there without going into the city centre.
The same thing happened with the valley towns. In the past month, one ride came from Mardan College Chowk and one from Nowshera Cantt, and both were going to exactly the same place: Golra Mor in H-13. Both were one-off trips and have since expired, but they show where a Mardan or Nowshera driver is most likely to be heading.
If you need to reach Blue Area or the F-sectors, expect to take a short cab or metro ride from the drop point rather than be dropped at the door.
Town by town
In the valley towns, the pickup is usually a main chowk on the road out.
Mardan — the valley town people search for most. It has a large university, Abdul Wali Khan University, and College Chowk is the kind of central, easy-to-find pickup a driver will name.
Nowshera — on the GT Road between Peshawar and Attock, with a large cantonment. Nowshera Cantt is the pickup that has appeared on the board.
Charsadda — close to Peshawar on the north side. A Peshawar-to-Islamabad driver may be willing to start here if you ask.
Swabi — between Mardan and the Indus, and home to GIK Institute at Topi, so expect some of the demand to follow the university term.
Kohat — south of Peshawar through the Kohat Tunnel. It sits off the main east–west corridor, so Kohat travellers usually need to get to Peshawar or the motorway first.
How to find a seat when the board is thin
Search the Peshawar–Islamabad rides, not just your town. Most drivers from Peshawar will pick up on their way if you are already on their road. Call and ask — it is not all-or-nothing.
Look a few days ahead. These are trips, not daily commutes. The same car does not run every morning, so a search on the day often finds nothing.
Post the ride you need. A request with your town, the date and the destination stays visible to drivers for days, which a WhatsApp group message does not. Post it here.
If you drive this route, list it. With so few rides from the valley towns, a regular driver from Mardan, Swabi or Nowshera will be one of very few — and the seats will be seen.
Before you travel
Agree the pickup point, the time and the fare with the driver by phone or WhatsApp before the day.
Fuel and toll costs change, so agree the per-seat price directly rather than trusting a number from an article.
Meet at a busy public chowk, check the car and number plate against the listing, and send your trip details to someone at home. Our safety guide covers the rest.
