Lahore pickup points: what Gulberg, Kalma Chowk, Gajju Matah, Thokar Niaz Baig and the rest actually are

Lahore carpool posts rarely give an address. They give a landmark: “drop Gulberg”, “Kalma Chowk se”, “Thokar tak”, “pickup Gajju Matah”. If you grew up in Lahore that is enough. If you have just moved for a job or a university place, it is a list of names that does not tell you where you would actually be standing at 8am.

Most Lahore pickups happen on a main road the driver was already taking.

This guide covers the names that keep turning up in Lahore ride posts, written from the rides on the board right now: 36 live daily rides run inside Lahore. Almost all of them are office, university or hospital commutes, not one-off trips.

Why Lahore rides name landmarks, not streets

A carpool driver is already on the way to work. They can make one short detour, not five, so they name places on their own route. A landmark is somewhere both people can find without sharing a home address, and somewhere you can wait for a few minutes without blocking traffic. That is why the same names repeat. They are not the most famous places in Lahore. They are the easiest places to stop.

The office end: Gulberg and MM Alam Road

Gulberg is the destination that shows up most on the Lahore board. It appears in 10 of the 36 live Lahore rides. It is Lahore’s main office and commercial district. “Drop Gulberg” can mean anywhere across a large area, so agree the exact building or road before the first morning.

MM Alam Road, in Gulberg III, is the strip of offices, restaurants and shops that narrows it down. If your office is on or near it, say so — a driver going to Gulberg anyway can usually drop you there.

The single most common pairing on the board is Bahria Town to Gulberg: three separate live rides make exactly that run every working day, and a fourth comes from Bahria Orchard next door. Bahria Town and Bahria Orchard together appear in 7 live rides.

The south-west: Raiwind Road, Thokar Niaz Baig and the new societies

A large share of Lahore’s commuters now live in the housing societies on the south-western side and drive into the centre every morning.

Ferozepur Road: Kalma Chowk to Gajju Matah

Ferozepur Road names often double as metro bus stops.

Ferozepur Road runs south out of the city, and the Lahore metro bus runs along it. Because of that, many of its stops are names everybody already knows:

Places along Ferozepur Road appear in 6 live rides. If you live near the metro line, you can often take the bus one or two stops to a pickup point instead of asking the driver to come to you.

Shahdara, across the Ravi in the north, is the other end of the same metro line. It appears as a pickup for rides heading to Gulberg.

DHA and Cantt

DHA appears in 9 live Lahore rides — sometimes as a pickup, sometimes as a destination. Lahore DHA is split into phases, and rides usually name one or a range (“DHA Phase 1 to 6”). Treat the phase as the area and agree the exact road with the driver. Askari 10 and the Cantt side show up as pickups for the same south-eastern part of the city.

The old centre: Mall Road, Jail Road and the colleges

These have their own rhythm: earlier starts, term-time only, and seats that fill quickly at the start of a semester.

The hospital and industrial runs

Mayo Hospital, in the old city, is the destination in 3 live rides, all coming in from the DHA and Askari side. Hospital shift times change, so confirm the timing even when the route matches exactly.

Sundar Industrial Estate, out beyond Raiwind Road, and Kot Abdul Malik, on Sheikhupura Road, are factory runs. Expect early starts and drops named by the estate rather than a building.

How these fit together

Most Lahore commutes start in the suburbs — Bahria Town and Raiwind Road in the south-west, Ferozepur Road in the south, DHA in the south-east — and end in Gulberg, the old centre, or a university. We have mapped those routes in Lahore carpool routes. If you are thinking about paying a driver by the month, read office pick and drop in Lahore first.

Three things to agree before the first morning

See every daily route in the city on Pick & Drop, or the whole city at carpooling in Lahore. Women travelling alone can go straight to the women-only seats, and if you use WhatsApp groups, see our list of carpool WhatsApp groups in Lahore. If you drive one of these routes with empty seats, offer a ride — you set the fare and Sawarri takes no commission.
