Karachi carpool posts almost never give an address. They give a landmark: “drop Chundrigar”, “PIDC tak”, “pickup Maskan Chowrangi”, “Malir Halt se”. If you have lived here all your life that is enough. If you have just started a new job, or you are reading a ride post from the other side of the city, it is a list of names that tells you very little about where the car will actually stop.

This guide covers the names that keep turning up in Karachi ride posts. It is written from the rides on the board right now: 73 live rides run inside Karachi, and almost all of them are daily office, school or hospital commutes rather than one-off trips.
A carpool driver is already going to work. They can make one short detour, not five, so they name the places their route passes anyway. A landmark is also somewhere both people can find without sharing a home address, and somewhere you can stand for a few minutes without blocking traffic. That is why the same names repeat across dozens of posts. They are not necessarily the most important places in the city. They are the easiest places to stop.

I.I. Chundrigar Road is Karachi’s financial district: bank head offices, the State Bank and a long row of older commercial buildings. It is the most-named office destination on the board, appearing in 12 of the 73 live Karachi rides. “Drop Chundrigar” means somewhere along that road, which is long enough that you should agree which building or which end before the first morning.
Because the road is long, people name the ends instead. Tower means the Merewether Tower end, towards the port side of the city. Shaheen Complex, M.T. Khan Road and West Wharf appear alongside it in the same posts, because they are all in the same few blocks.
PIDC is the big junction where Shahrah-e-Faisal begins, by the Marriott hotel and Beaumont Plaza. Drivers use it as a drop because it sits right where the main artery from the east of the city meets the old centre, so they can let you off without leaving their route.
Shahrah-e-Faisal is the main road from the city centre out to the airport, and most cross-city commutes spend part of their journey on it. It appears in 12 live Karachi rides. The names along it are really just stops on one road:
If you live in Malir, Model Colony or Shah Faisal Colony, these are the names to search. Malir and its neighbourhoods appear in 11 live rides, almost all heading in along Shahrah-e-Faisal in the morning.
Clifton is the single most common name in Karachi ride posts, appearing in 18 of the 73 live rides. Because “Clifton” covers a large area, posts name a landmark inside it:
DHA rides usually name a phase rather than a landmark — Phase 5, Phase 6, Phase 8. Phases are big, so treat the phase as the area and agree the exact road or building with the driver.
A chowrangi is a roundabout, and in Karachi they are the natural meeting points for pickups in residential areas.
Korangi appears in 10 live rides. These are different from office runs: earlier starts, factory shift times, and drops named by area rather than building — Korangi Industrial Area, Korangi Creek, Landhi Industrial Area. The EBM Causeway is the link between the DHA side and Korangi, so rides coming from DHA often mention it as the route rather than the destination. See every live ride to and from Korangi, or read pick and drop to Korangi Industrial Area for the timings and prices.
Some rides are for hospital staff and name the hospital as the drop: JPMC, Liaquat National Hospital and Aga Khan Hospital. Liaquat National and Aga Khan are both off Stadium Road, so a single ride often serves both. Hospital shifts change, so confirm the timing even when the route matches exactly.
Most Karachi commutes are a residential area in the north or east — North Karachi, F.B. Area, Gulshan, Jauhar, Scheme 33, Malir — heading to one of three office clusters: the I.I. Chundrigar end, Shahrah-e-Faisal, or Clifton and DHA. We have mapped those corridors in Office pick and drop in Karachi: the five corridors, and the wider picture in Karachi carpool routes.
